The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals[]
Charlotte first appears in TGWDLM as a performer in The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, wherein she gives us a fine sampling of her outstanding vocals, which will return later on in the show.
Just before the song ends, Charlotte takes a seat at her desk in the CCRP Technical Office, where she can be seen 'hard at work'. However, this stops when she gets a call on the office's phone from her husband Sam. A pained conversation ensues, wherein Sam tells his wife that he will be late home that night, much to Charlotte's dismay, who reminds him that it's 'cuddle night'. When Sam brushes this off, Charlotte informs him that their counselor says that they should do it at least once a month, and that they skipped last month. She suggests the next night as a compromise, but Sam rejects this, saying that they should stick to the schedule and wait another month. Hopeful, Charlotte tries to end the call with a message of love for her husband, but he hangs up before she can finish. Now utterly defeated, Charlotte returns the phone to its receiver, and draws out a cigarette and lighter, making a comment on how counseling is going real swell. Paul reminds her that she can't smoke in the office, bringing Charlotte back to her senses. She returns her smoking implements, and instead brings out a flask, most likely filled with a nefarious liquid.
Charlotte is next seen during a montage that takes place that night, where it becomes clear that she's having an affair with her co-worker Ted. When Charlotte expresses her concern over her husband being caught in the terrible storm, Ted enters and says "Fuck Sam", before asking her to come back to bed. Charlotte tells him that this has to be the last time, but Ted reminds her that she said that last time, and if she doesn't like what they're doing, 'there's the door', suggesting that she should get out of her own house.
The next day, Charlotte is having a break with her co-workers, ignoring Bill's story about the Starlight Theater being exploded by a God-dang meteor. Instead, she is making sure that there is enough coffee in the sugar, and upon Bill pointing this out to her, she goes to make another pot. She quickly returns, and now begins to ignore Paul's story about being ambushed by either Canadians or a flash mob. However, Paul breaks her out of her reverie when he asks her if she has seen anything strange. She then expresses concern over how perfectly her husband sung in the shower that morning, relaying that he said that he was coming home late the night before, but is interrupted by Ted blurting out that Sam didn't get home at all. Going on, Charlotte starts to become upset, but at Paul's request relays the tune that her husband was singing, nodding the affirmative when Paul finishes the tune.
Charlotte later makes a surprise appearance when Paul and Emma Perkins are hiding in an alleyway, having just been pursued by the staff and customers at Beanies. She gives the pair a warning and pops out of her trash can, and later confirms Bill's claims that everyone's singing, stating that it was the same at the bank, butchers and post office. Later, when sirens sound, she assures the others that it's only her husband Sam, and that she called for him as he's a member of the HFPD, unknowing that he and his co-workers (Doug and Robert's Hatchetfield Cop) have been infected by the Hive.
The cops break into Show Me Your Hands, throughout which Charlotte tries to reason with her husband. However, Sam falls deaf to her pleas, continuing to carry out his flawless dance number, although this does not last very long, as Ted grabs one of the trashcan lids in order to protect himself, before deciding to hit Sam over the head with it, exposing his brains, ending the number.
Charlotte threatens the other Hatchetfield cops away with her husband's gun, before fully coming to the realization of what has happened to her husband and going to his side, understandably distraught. Aghast, Charlotte picks up the brains of her husband, relaying that it fell out, and Ted instructs her to put it back then. She reminds him that she doesn't know how as she's not a doctor, and Ted tells her that it can't be Sam's brain as its blue, to which Charlotte responds that Ted isn't a doctor, so he wouldn't know, causing Ted to groan in frustration. Later, Charlotte suggests that they should all go to a church, but Ted reminds her that they are all from different denominations, and that they cannot split split up: he's a Presbyterian, he's not going to die in her dirty-ass Methodist church. He instead counters that they go to the panic room and beg for the king's help, like Emma suggested.
Upon entering Professor Henry Hidgens's manor, Charlotte takes in the Professor's theory that the world is becoming a musical, musing as to whether that's what's happened to Sam. When Hidgens realizes that one of the infected have been brought into his home, he waves a gun wildly in the group's direction, and Ted exclaims that they should have listened to him by leaving Sam in the alley. Charlotte calls him a monster, but Ted gestures to Sam and instead reminds her that he's a monster.
After a conversation confirming that they are in fact dealing with aliens, the most group exits to have a drink, leaving Ted and Charlotte alone with the unconscious Sam. Ted tries to entice Charlotte with a drink, saying that they can relax, talk, and fuck, but she can't believe that he's thinking about that at a time like this, as the whole world could be coming to an end. In a moment of passion, Ted reveals that if he's going to die, he's going to go out doing the thing he loves: screwing around with another man's wife. Charlotte reprimands the horny bastard and goes to slap him, but he stops her, and after some flirtatious talk the two start getting it on. However, Charlotte pauses, reminding him that her husband's brains fell out that day, and that if she can't be a wife to him now, what kind of woman is she? Ted pulls away, stumped for answers, and suggests that she goes back to fucking her therapist. Charlotte admits that she does actually want her marriage to work with Sam, and she does love him, although she shouldn't. Frustrated, Ted explains that her husband is a scumbag, and that she could upgrade to a sleazeball (himself), but she refuses to be happy. He then tells her that he's done and that she can stay with her dying marriage and her dying husband as he's going to hit on 'that crabby barista' (Emma), and leaves, giving her the keys to Sam's cuffs.
In a moment of desperation, Charlotte starts praying to God, saying that she didn't want any of this to happen, and although she's had her problems with Sam and has been so angry with him lately, she doesn't want him to die, and wishes for him to wake up. Sam decides to do just that, frightening Charlotte. He starts to ask questions, requesting for a doctor, but is denied one. Instead, he begins to promise that if Charlotte unties him then they'll both run away together, leading into Tied Up My Heart.
Initially Charlotte tries to leave and get help, but before long she is drawn in by her husband's song, and even begins to dance along with him and the chair. However, after some time Sam starts to become weaker, declaring that he wants to die in Charlotte's arms in the evening glow, before collapsing. In a panic, Charlotte uncuffs her husband from the chair, blaming herself for his 'death'. Almost immediately after being freed from the chair Sam begins to sing once more, drawing Charlotte into his arms. Then he strikes, plunging a hand into his wife's stomach and pulling out her guts, ruining her cute cat sweater. He then puts the bloody entrails in his mouth, picks Charlotte up, and successfully strides away.
Charlotte makes her final appearance in TGWDLM a good one, making her grand entrance with a perfect C#5 to begin Join Us (And Die). Having been infected by Sam, her intestines are now blue, and she is attempting to infect the others with her nasty blue shit alongside her husband. Notably, within the song she targets Ted, punching, squeezing, crushing, 'killing', riding, dragging, winding up, and kicking him in the nuts, before Sam is shot by Hidgens. In response, she points towards the professor, letting out yet another perfect note, but the charlatan is shot anyway.
Black Friday[]
Charlotte makes her first appearance in Black Friday as a member of the Wiggly Cult, when the group present the captured Hannah Foster and Becky Barnes to their prophet, Linda Monroe. For most of the scene she stands menacingly to the side, but at one point she takes Ethan's magic hat after it is snatched off Hannah by Linda and offered to her, and puts it on her head.
When Lex Foster enters with a Wiggly doll, Charlotte can be seen reaching out towards it, as she is under Wiggly's control, but quickly turns in defense of her prophet when Tom Houston threatens Linda with a gun. She then drops to her knees and gasps when Lex attempts to set the doll on fire, and watches on when Linda stops the teenager with her screeching and quickly claims the doll.
During Wiggle, Charlotte sways to the music, and joins in on the group yoga session. She also contributes to a very sexy two-part harmony with Linda, before joining in on the menacing chanting and general cult-like praise for the fluffy abomination known as Wiggly. However, by the end of the song she has disappeared, and it is implied that she somehow broke free of Wiggly's influence.
Charlotte later returns in What If Tomorrow Comes, free from Wiggly's control. When the countdown begins, initially she is stood in front of Ted, hands clasped to her chest, but after some time she moves her right hand so that she can take Ted's left. She remains this way until a loud wooshing sound is heard overhead and the stage fades to black.
Forever and Always[]
Charlotte is a guest at the wedding of Paul Perkins and Emma Matthews.
Time Bastard[]
At Paul and Emma's wedding reception Ted flirts with her but she turns him down.
Hey, Melissa![]
As Melissa pushes her mail cart around the CCRP technical department, she compliments Charlotte on her cat sweater though Charlotte doesn't initially realize what she's referring to. A few days later, after learning Paul has supposedly quit and moved to Clivesdale, Bill remarks to Charlotte that Paul must have been lying to Melissa.
Personality and Traits[]
Charlotte has a quiet and sweet nature though she can appear quite emotional and dazed at times. Despite the numerous affairs both have had, she really cares for her husband Sam and wants to make her marriage with him work.
Skills[]
- Perseverance- Despite numerous signs that her marriage is failing, Charlotte continues to attempt to fix her marriage with Sam.
Relationships[]
Sam Sweetly[]
Sam is Charlotte's husband. He is cheating on her with a number of different women, most notably Zoey Chambers while she is cheating on him with Ted Spankoffski and her therapist. Sam is a douchebag towards Charlotte, often messing her around. Despite this, Charlotte wants to make her marriage work with Sam as she loves him.
In The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, the Hive uses Charlotte's affection for her husband to lure her into freeing her husband, subsequently resulting in her death.
Ted Spankoffski[]
Ted is Charlotte's co-worker at CCRP. The two are having an affair, with Ted often flirting with Charlotte. The majority of the time Charlotte returns Ted's affection, but she occasionally dismisses him, choosing to turn towards Sam instead much to his annoyance. Ted wants Charlotte to leave her husband for him but she wants to keep him as one of her side things.[1]
In The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals Ted and Charlotte clearly have some amount of affection for each other but Ted clearly cares more for Charlotte than she does for him as she constantly interrupts her interactions with him via talking about her husband.
Paul Matthews[]
Paul is Charlotte's co-worker. The two share a friendly relationship with Paul being able to calm Charlotte down when she's upset. His clone double, Paul Perkins, invited her to his wedding.
Her Therapist[]
Charlotte's Counselor is the relationship counselor Sam and Charlotte go to. As well as this, Charlotte is having an affair with her therapist.
