Black Friday[]

At the beginning of the show he surprises Lex at work and talks with her about their plan to move to California together with Hannah. When Hannah started feeling scared, he gives her a "magic hat" to make her feel better and promises her that as long as she wears the hat, nothing can harm her.

Later on he watches over Hannah and takes her to the Hatchetfield Mall Cineplex to (begrudgingly) watch "Santa Claus Is Goin' To High School" while Lex worked at the toy store for Black Friday. However, at that very moment, a group of brainwashed shoppers attack him and Hannah. He tells Hannah to run and hide as he attempts to fight them off. When they discover he doesn't have a Wiggly on him, the shoppers stop attacking him and leave him on the ground, bloody and bruised. Tom and Becky then discover Ethan and, with his dying breath, says to Becky (thinking it was Lex) that he'll get her to California, before, unfortunately, dying from his injuries on the floor.

In Act 2, Wiggly creates a hallucination of Ethan, in an attempt to lure Hannah onto his side. However, this doesn't work.

Throughout the show, Hannah wears the hat Ethan gave her, as she believes it will keep her safe (and possibly to remember him). There is some debate over whether the hat is actually magical or not. For example: when Ethan gives his hat to Hannah, he is killed almost immediately afterwards. However, Hannah, who has been wearing the hat the whole show, manages to survive the brainwashed shoppers. This is shown when Becky attempts to drug Hannah, but misses and stabs her leg with the syringe instead, despite being a trained medical professional. This has caused fans to theorize that the hat is actually magic (or it's actually Ethan protecting Hannah in the afterlife). Either way, the hat truly represents the close bond he and Hannah had with each other.

Jane's A Car[]

Ethan is shown to be working in his dads garage fixing Tom Houston's car. While he works, Lex sits in the drivers seat. She is listening to music until it cuts out and the tape deck begins to play. Lex tries to hit the radio to switch it back but it doesn't work. Ethan then leans across and hits it which causes the radio to resume playing. Ethan talks about how if he was Tom Houston, he wouldn't keep the car around after the accident which killed Jane, instead he would move on. This angers Jane who was trapped in the Car. After this Ethan encourages Lex to give the car some gas but as it's somehow shifted into drive, most probably by Jane controlling the gears. Ethan is almost hit by it but Lex manages to break just in time. After his close encounter with death, Ethan appears flustered and angry at Lex as he thought that she was careless and did not check the gears properly. This causes him to lash out at her before seeing that she is visually upset and then softening and comforting her.

Witch in the Web[]

It is revealed that Ethan and Lex were caught selling Pamela's painkillers. Despite it being Pamela's idea Lex and Ethan both took the blame and the longer sentence for fear of Hannah being left entirely alone assuming even Pamela was better than no one. Ethan was sentenced to two years in prison. End the end of the story, Miss Holloway says that she would try her best to bring Ethan and Lex home.

Yellow Jacket[]

Ethan is first seen trying to cheer up Hannah Foster following her accident by telling her jokes. Hannah brushes off his jokes, calling them stupid. Later, Ethan is seen trying to fix the kitchen sink, he eventually gives up and goes and sit with Lex. He mentions how the sink is dripping which puts Lex on edge. Their conversation eventually escalates into a fight.

A few weeks later, Lex rushes around the house getting ready for her day at work. While she does this, she gives Ethan instructions for the day and then leaves. After she's gone, Hannah emerges from her room and Ethan wishes her a happy birthday. Hannah and Ethan go to Pizza Pete's to celebrate her birthday. Ethan buys Hannah some tokens and she begins winning arcade games while Ethan cheers her on.

When they try to cash in their tickets, Ethan and Hannah are brought to Eddie Chiplucky's office. Eddie offers Hannah the opportunity to make some money and takes them to the Hatchetfield Roller-rama where they watch the fight between Spitfire and Stopwatch. After the fight, Eddie offers Ethan the opportunity to have Hannah fight but he refuses.

After returning home and seeing Lex upset at the fact that she forgot Hannah's birthday, Ethan agrees to let Hannah fight. A few days later, Ethan watches Hannah's fight. Afterwards, he's given the prize money by Eddie and he and Hannah purchase a penthouse apartment as well as games and pizza. After calling her at work, Lex returns home and Ethan tells her about how he got money. Later that night, Ethan and Lex have sex in the bouncy house and then the two talk. During the conversation, Lex reveals to Ethan that she used to be able to see Webby and Ethan realises she has her own powers that have faded over time.

A few days later, Ethan visits a jeweler and purchases an engagement ring. He attempts to propose to Lex but is interrupted by Eddie arriving to ask Hannah to fight again. Hannah agrees and she and Ethan go with Eddie to the Roller-rama and watch Sophia's fight against Otho. Ethan is horrified to see what happens to Sophia. He's later approached by Charles who offers Ethan the opportunity for Hannah to fight Otho. Ethan refuses but is possessed by Hannah who agrees to let her fight him.

After Lex defeats Otho, Ethan holds Charles at gunpoint and gets him to let Lex and Hannah go. When he and Lex return to the penthouse, he apologises to her and she tells him they'll talk more in the morning. The next day Ethan wakes up and finds Lex has gone and he's all alone.

Personality and Traits[]

Despite his outward appearance as a typical bad-boy, Ethan is a kind and caring guy. Ethan is a fiercely loyal person; he truly cares for the people he loves and is willing to do anything for them, even if this means sacrificing himself. Ethan is often prone to anxiety when it comes to those he truly cares about and can often struggle to express his true feelings. Ethan is also really great with kids, as he has a fun-loving nature that appeals to them while also being extremely caring, allowing him to act as an almost older brother for Hannah. However, from the outside, Ethan generally appears like a typical no-good bad-boy. He is often quick to use violence and can threaten people in order to get what he wants. This has resulted in Ethan gaining a bad reputation around Hatchetfield, with many people viewing him as a juvenile delinquent who didn't do well in school and can't be trusted.

Skills[]

  • Car Repair- After working for years in his dad's body-shop, Ethan is very skilled at repairing cars.

Relationships[]

Lex Foster[]

Ethan and Lex

Lex and Ethan during CaliforM.I.A

Lex Foster is Ethan's girlfriend; the two deeply care for each other and appear to be the only non-family member the other cares about and even has time for. Ethan is willing to do anything for Lex, including leaving his whole family to run away with her to California. Despite their deep love and commitment to one another, Lex and Ethan's relationship is often strained by the financial issues they face.

In Black Friday, Lex and Ethan are extremely happy together, hoping to sell a Wiggly doll and use the money to run away to California. Lex trusts Ethan to look after Hannah while she's at work. As he dies, Ethan mistakes Becky for Lex and with his final breath promises to get her to California. Lex never discovers that Ethan had died.

In Jane's A Car, Lex and Ethan appear very happy together. While their relationship is slightly strained by Lex almost killing Ethan, he quickly forgives her and comforts her upon seeing she's upset.

In Yellow Jacket, Ethan and Lex have moved in together along with Hannah. However, after Hannah's accident Lex becomes very stressed, lashing out at Ethan. Ethan and Hannah earning money greatly improves Lex's mood. She and Ethan hook up in the bouncy house and Lex tells Ethan that she loves him and that he makes her happy. Later, Ethan attempts to propose to Lex but is interrupted by Eddie arriving at their door. At the end of the story, Lex leaves Ethan hoping to spare him from a life on the run, leaving him alone in the penthouse with only her note and his engagement ring to remember her by.

Hannah Foster[]

Ethan and Hannah

Hannah and Ethan in Black Friday

Hannah Foster is like a younger sister to Ethan. She is the sister of Ethan's girlfriend, Lex. Ethan loves Hannah and sees her like she's his own sister. He feels extremely protective of the girl and is even willing to die for her. He's very good with Hannah, being able to coax her to do things even when Webby tells her not to.

In Black Friday, Ethan manages to coax Hannah to take the backpack by giving her his magic hat, giving up his own magical protection to protect her. He looks after Hannah while Lex works at Toy Zone and even dies protecting her from the Wiggly cult. Ethan is later used by Wiggly to try and convince Hannah to give Linda the doll but she refuses.

In Yellow Jacket, Ethan tries to cheer up Hannah after she hurts her finger but she doesn't laugh at his jokes. Later, Ethan acts as Hannah's guardian while she fights at the Hatchetfield Roller-rama. He still tries to protect Hannah, initially refusing to let her fight at all and then later refusing to let her fight Otho before he's possessed by the girl. At the end of the story, Hannah and Lex leave Ethan when they leave Hatchetfield.

Eddie Chiplucky[]

Eddie Chiplucky is an associate of Ethan's. The man successfully convinces Ethan to allow Hannah to fight at the Roller-rama and generally appears friendly towards him.

Charles[]

Charles and Ethan

Charles approaches Ethan and attempts to convince him to allow Hannah into the ring with Otho but the boy refuses until Hannah controls his mind and demands a hundred million dollars in exchange for her fighting. After Otho is defeated, Ethan helps Lex and Hannah escape by holding Charles at gunpoint.

Tony Green[]

Tony Green is Ethan's father. Despite never appearing on screen together, it's clear that Tony really cares for Ethan.

Ethan's Mother[]

Little is known about Ethan's Mother but it's clear he cares for her as he wants to have a picture of her in his and Lex's new room in the penthouse.

Trivia[]

  • It's possible that Ethan was held back or was a super senior.[1]
  • It is heavily implied that Ethan was given his magic hat by Miss Holloway.
  • There was a Nightmare Time story that was largely based around Ethan, 'Ethan Doesn't Die', however, this story was scrapped and is not considered canon.
