James Tolbert (born August 7th, 1989) is an American actor, singer, dancer, and writer based in Los Angeles. He is best known for his work with American musical theatre company Team StarKid.
Early Life and Education[]
James graduated with a BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Michigan.
Work[]
While at the University of Michigan, James featured in a number of productions featuring in the ensemble of 42nd Street, Evita and Ragtime. He has also performed in a number of productions at The Muny: Damn Yankees, Footloose, Kiss Me Kate and Seven Brides for Seven Women.
James appeared in the Second National Tour of Mary Poppins as Gardener and Ensemble as well as the understudy for Valentine. He also appeared in the second Las Vegas residency of Mamma Mia as Eddie. James also featured as Simba in adapted productions of the Lion King at both Disneyland California and Disneyland Hong Kong.
James also stars as Samuel Stratford in Matt Dahan's radio musical series Pulp Musicals.
StarKid Productions[]
James made his StarKid debut as the choreographer for A Very Potter Sequel. He has since gone on to act of choreographer for Twisted, The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, Black Friday and VHS Christmas Carol Live!, for which he also served as assistant director.
James made his StarKid acting debut in Black Friday appearing as Xander Lee, Snigglotts and Vice President Bob Morris. He has since featured in both Nightmare Time and Nightmare Time 2 as well as A VHS Christmas Carol, VHS Christmas Carol Live! and VHS Christmas Carols. James also appeared in Cinderella's Castle as The Prince.
