Julia Marie Albain (born December 4, 1986) is an American actress, writer, director, producer, singer and performer based in Santa Fe. She is best known for her work with American musical theatre company Team StarKid.
Early Life and Education[]
Julia was born in Cincinnati. While in high school, she spent hours working in the theatre. She then went on to train with local theatre artists in Cincinnati and participated in the Cincinnati Cappie Awards. She also became President of her school theatre group.
Julia attended the University of Michigan where she graduated in 2009 with a BFA in Theatre Performance and Acting. While there she also served on the board of director for Basement Arts as well as directing two shows.
Work[]
Julia has worked on a number of productions. She featured in the short film and in the TV series World's Worst Musical as Decoy #1.
Whilst in college she co-founded Transit Five Productions. The group produced four summer season of shows including four cabarets, three musicals, and two plays in total. Julia has since gone on to direct and produce a number of productions.
In 2013, Julia launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a production of the play 'The Last Days of Judas Iscariot' which premiered in August at Stage 773 in Chicago. They raised over $64,000 in thirty days. Alongside this, the production team created a documentary about producing the show alongside using social media to document and share the creative process.
In 2013, Julia and Lauren Lopez developed a show called The Mom's Fannypackin' Heat. Julia also served as producer for the production which was performed at the Chicago Dramatists Theatre.
Julia currently works as the founder and creator of Radical Healers Ecosystem and the founder and owner of Albain Energy Medicine.
StarKid Productions[]
Julia met the members of what is now StarKid while collaborating on plays through Basement Arts, the university's student-run theatre organization. In 2009, Joe featured as Vincent Crabbe in A Very Potter Musical. The show sold out its four performances at UMich. A recorded version of the show that was posted on YouTube for family members to watch went viral. In response to the musicals popularity StarKid Productions was formed with Julia as one of it's founding members.
Julia went on to reprise her role as Crabbe in A Very Potter Sequel. She since gone on to appear in three more StarKid musicals as well as featuring in A Very StarKid Reunion and StarKid Homecoming. Alongside appearing in productions, Julia served as director of Firebringer as well as serving as a production associate for Starship and as Associate Producer for both Ani: A Parody and The Trail to Oregon!. Julia also served as tour director for both The SPACE Tour and Apocalyptour.
Julia also featured in a number of StarKid summer season shows. She featured in both Sex a.k.a. Wieners and Boobs and Women as well as directing At Home at the Zoo.
