Nicholas Joseph Strauss-Matathia (more commonly known as Nick Strauss) (born April 1) is an actor, singer, sound designer and performer based in Chicago. He is best known for his work with American musical theater company Team StarKid.
Early Life and Education[]
Nick attended the University of Michigan where he graduated in 2011 with a BFA in theater.
Work[]
Nick has featured in a wide range of theatrical productions. He featured as Dave in the world premiere of Joint Attention at Berger Park Coach House, Chicago, Bellboy in Bellboys, Bears and Baggage at Redmoon Theatre, Chicago, Freeman 1 in Ubu II: Electric Booh-Ubu, or Free Ubu as Berger Park Coach House, Brady, Reggie and Owen in Tippy: Stories from the River at The Pentagon Theater at Collaboraction Studios, Chicago and as Bernard in Hertha Nova at The Den, Chicago[1].
In 2014, Nick and his fiance Madison founded a new works focused Chicago based theater company Death & Pretzels. Nick currently serves as Managing Director for the company. He has featured in a number of productions with the company including The Dybbuk, Gruuch, or Lady Macbeth, Anatomy of Gray, very still & hard to see, The Basement Company and The Book of Maggie. He also served as producer for Musical Therapy, Helmut's Big Day and I, Cockroach[2].
StarKid Productions[]
Nick met the members of StarKid while collaborating in UoM's university's student-run theatre organization. He made his StarKid debut as The Old Snatch in Me and My Dick. He then went on to appear as Sirius Black in A Very Potter Sequel and A Very Potter Senior Year. He also featured in A Very Potter Senior Year as Fenrir Greyback. Nick also featured as Penguin in Holy Musical B@man! as well as having a pre-recorded cameo in Starship. He also featured in the 2014 summer season iteration of Sex a.k.a. Wieners and Boobs.
