Paul Perkins (also known as Paul 23) is a character in the Hatchetfield Universe. He features in Forever and Always and Time Bastard. He is a clone created by CCRP using the DNA of Paul Matthews. Paul is the husband of Emma Matthews. He is played by Jon Matteson.

History[]
Paul was created as one of many clones of Paul Matthews mass-produced in the basement of CCRP. The initial DNA used in the cloning program came from a coffee cup the original Paul had drunk from. The clones were intended for a secret mining colony on the moon. However, as Paul 23 was grown with all of the original Paul's memories he grew jealous of the life the real Paul was living, so he staged a rebellion and escaped from CCRP. He then killed the original Paul and took his place.
Forever and Always[]
Forever and Always opens with Paul and Emma are getting married, with Professor Hidgens as the officiant, but, as Emma is finishing her vows, the Homeless Man bursts in, declaring that "that's not Emma Perkins!" This causes a shaken Emma to run from the room. Paul follows her out and attempts to comfort her, but Emma then reveals that she isn't really Emma Perkins. She reveals that the real Emma died in a bus crash and that she took her identity. Paul tells her that he accepts her for who she is and the two return back to the wedding and get married. They then go to their hotel honeymoon suite, where they decide to take each others names, making them Paul Perkins and Emma Matthews.
A week later, Paul returns to work at Coven Communications, Research and Power. Bill and Paul are sat in their cubicles where Bill is on the phone with his ex-wife after getting off the phone he remarks to Paul that "marriage is a crock o' shit" and that one day the shit is gonna hit the fan. Paul then sets out to go to the Java Cafe to get his coffee. While on his way to the café, Paul bumps into Emma Perkins, who has recently returned from Guatemala and is clearly not dead. Mistaking her for his wife, Paul tries to kiss her, leading to an altercation where Emma calls Paul a pervert.
Once home that night, Paul confronts his wife on what happened outside his work, much to her confusion. From the clues Paul gives, Emdroid realises that the real Emma is still alive, and sets out to hunt down and kill her. Around ten minutes later, the real Emma shows up at Paul's door, demanding answers. It is here that she finds the pictures of Paul and Emdroid together. Realizing the apartment isn't safe, and realizing Emdroid's true intentions of stealing her life, Emma and Paul go to The Birdhouse Bar.
Emma tells Paul about her time in Guatemala and what she's been doing while Emdroid masqueraded as her. Paul, still not quite believing this story, declares that he has had half a beer and is tipsy, and would like the "sexy surprise" that Emdroid promised, before leaving to go to the bathroom. When he eventually comes back out, he finds his wife about to kill the real Emma. She tries to convince him that he is drunkenly hallucinating; however, while she is doing this, the real Emma hits her in the head with a pool cue and, when it cracks in half from the impact, proceeds to stab it into the fake Emma's eye. Instead of bleeding, though, her eye sparks, revealing that Paul's wife is an android. While the robot is distracted, Paul and Emma are able to escape in Paul's car.
Real Emma and Paul go to Emma's hotel room, where Emma tries to flirt with him, but he turns her down, saying that he's married to Emdroid. It is at this point that Emdroid appears from the bathroom. The two Emmas fight and in the chaos the knife ends up flying and nearly hitting Paul's head. While the two women continue to fight Paul grabs the knife and demands they stop. The two women reason with Paul both begging him to kill the other one. Paul ends up stabbing the real Emma and she dies.
Later that day, Paul and Emdroid dispose of Emma's body over the Nantucket Bridge, where Emma reveals that she is really an android from the future who killed her creators and escaped. In response to her confession, Paul confesses that he isn't Paul Matthews either, and is instead a clone of him made by CCRP. He reveals to Emma how he murdered the real Paul and took his place. The two agree to continue their lives as a normal married couple, after they murder the Homeless Man for ruining their wedding and knowing Emma's secret.
Time Bastard[]
Paul and Emma Matthews appear at the end of Time Bastard. It caps off the episode with their plan of killing the Homeless Man shown in motion.
Personality and Traits[]
Much like the original Paul, on the surface, Paul Perkins appears as a very ordinary man who is content in his life. He is also prone to anxiety in situations that appear out of his control, such as his wife being revealed to be an android. Despite this, he is very loyal to Emma and he loves her deeply no matter what she does. However, unlike the original Paul, Paul Perkins is more easily prone to violence and is willing to kill when prompted to.

Emma and Paul in Forever and Always
Emma Matthews is Paul's wife. The two deeply care for each other and are willing to do anything for the other. Despite having a rather rocky relationship in Forever and Always, the two are able to work out their differences and come to an honest and truthful understanding.

Emma Perkins is the person from whom Paul's wife Emma Matthews' DNA comes. After returning to Hatchetfield in Forever and Always, Emma meets Paul while he goes for on a coffee break. Despite initially thinking him a creep, Emma and Paul end up teaming up after realising Emma Matthews isn't who she says she is. Emma finds herself attracted to Paul and flirts with him but finds herself annoyed by his loyalty to his wife. Paul ultimately ends up killing Emma.
Trivia[]
- In the original livestream of Forever and Always it was revealed that Paul replaced the real Paul three months into he and the android Emma dating. However, this was cut from the YouTube production and is therefore not canon.
