The Hatchetfield Universe is a fictional universe created by Nick and Matt Lang. The universe is the setting for The Hatchetfield Series. The universe initially consisted of one singular timeline which then later split into multiple timelines at a currently undisclosed point of time. These timelines exist concurrently and while similar events can happen across the timelines, the timelines each have their own distinct chronology. The plot of the series takes place in the United States of America in the late 2010s and early 2020s, primarily taking place in the town of Hatchetfield. The term "Hatchetfield Universe" refers to all dimensions and timelines within the Hatchetfield series.
Fundamentals[]
The entire Hatchetfield Series is set from October 2018 to Fall 2020 though events are referenced which take place prior to this timeline and some scenes take place in the future year of 2104. The depiction of the Hatchetfield Universe is centered on the town of Hatchetfield, a small town on an island on Lake Michigan as well as the various timelines in which the events of each of the stories take place. Much of the Hatchetfield Universe is based in the real world with properties such as the musical Hamilton and Mamma Mia being referenced within the series. However, other events such as politics differ greatly from the real world.
Outside of all timelines, there is a dimension known as the Black and White. The Black and White exists outside of all dimensions and is a swirling sea of psychic energy. This dimension is home to a number of eldritch creatures, most notably the Lords in Black. This dimension is ruled over by Wiggly and is also populated by his brothers: Blinky, Tinky, Pokey and Nibbly. The Lords in Black also have servants known as The Sniggles who serve them and do their bidding. Another creature that originated from the Black and White is Webby, a queen in white though it is unknown if she still exists in the Black and White in the present timeline.

The town of Hatchetfield is based on a fictional island on Lake Michigan. The island is separated from the mainland by a stretch of lake known as the Nantucket Channel and the island can be accessed by a bridge known as the Nantucket Bridge and a seasonal ferry. The bridge connects Hatchetfield island to its mainland sister city of Clivesdale.
The town of Hatchetfield has a very developed downtown area which is the center of business for the town with businesses such as Coven Communications Research and Power basing their offices there. The downtown area is also home to St. Damien's Hospital and the large shopping complex Lakeside Mall. The town also boasts two high schools: Hatchetfield High and Sycamore High. Hatchetfield also has a rich, upscale neighborhood called Pinebrook.
A significant portion of the Hatchetfield island is also covered by woodland: Witchwood Forest. This forest is made up of Tree-People, people born with a touch of The Gift who were subsequently planted by The Hatchetmen. The forest is home to a wide range of wildlife such as Checkered-Tail Nighthawks and timberwolves. The forest also contains the theme park Watcher World and the teen summer camp Camp Idontwannabang.
Outside of the town of Hatchetfield, the geography of the United States of America remains much the same. A part of the plot of Black Friday takes place in the capital city of Washington DC, home of the United States government. Also in Washington DC is P.E.I.P. HQ, a military base which contains a portal to the Black and White. Another one of these portals exists in Moscow, Russia.

Pre-Split[]
The town of Hatchetfield was founded in the year 1824 by a group of settlers known as the Hatchetmen. Alongside these settlers lived a witch Willabella Muckwab. Willabella was the first disciple of the eldritch god Wiggog Y'wrath. As part of her bidding to him, she used the blood of the children of the Hatchetmen to create the Black Book, a spell book of rituals and burial rights. In response to this, the Hatchetmen found Willabella guilty of the crime of witchcraft and was hung at the centre of what would one day become Witchwood Forest. To contain Willabella's and the magic of The Gift, the Hatchetmen planted those who has a touch of the gift and turned them into Tree-People, subsequently creating a web with their roots which would trap the magic in it.
In 1829, a new family moved to the town of Hatchetfield. This family, known as The Waylon Family came into the possession of The Black Book and became disciples of the Lords in Black. The Waylon Family created five special places in Hatchetfield for the purpose of conducting rituals with the Lords in Black known as Black Altars, These altars were also established as key landmarks within the town of Hatchetfield including Hatchetfield High and the Starlight Theater. In 1945, The Waylon Family formed The Church of the Starry Children, a church dedicated to worshipping the Lords in Black. The church would go on to found the Hatchetfield Honey Festival and the Honey Queen Pageant. On the eve of the festival each year, the church would offer a mountain of pig flesh and the winner of the Honey Queen Pageant to the eldritch god Nibbly and in exchange would be granted power and riches. Approximately around the year 1980, the Church of the Starry Children was attacked by the Hatchetmen and almost the entire church was executed, including Mr Young.
After travelling back in time from the future from the Time Bastard timeline, Ted Spankoffski would end up in the year of 2004. He would subsequently attack both his younger self and Andrew Kilgore. His meddling in time would lead to him accidentally murdering his lost love Jenny, As well as this, Ted became stuck in the past and would go on to become the Homeless Man often seen around Hatchetfield.
In year of 2005, P.E.I.P. scientists constructed a portal into the Black and White and Colonel Wilbur Cross stepped through the portal and pledged his allegiance to the forces within, becoming a disciple of the Lords in Black.
The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals Timeline[]
In October 2018, a meteor landed in the town of Hatchetfield. The meteor carried a pathogen connected to the Lord in Black Pokey which slowly began to infect the citizens of Hatchetfield, turning them into a singing and dancing hivemind. In response to the spreading infection, P.E.I.P. military forces were sent in to attempt to stop the spread. During this General John MacNamara would come into contact with survivor Paul Matthews and offer him and the other survivors, most notably Emma Perkins, salvation if they could get off the island. P.E.I.P.'s forces were ultimately infected by the virus. Paul Matthews attempted to destroy the meteor, hoping it would stop the hivemind. However, while attempting to do so, Paul himself became infected and would later bring the infection to the mainland, causing the infection to spread around the entire world.

Meanwhile, General John MacNamara recruited President Howard Goodman to enter the Black and White and attempt to reason with Wiggly. Their attempts failed and ultimately led to a nuclear bomb being sent through the Black and White to Moscow, nuking the city. Back in Hatchetfield, after being visited by MacNamara, Lex Foster recruited Tom Houston to take on the Wiggly cult and to attempt to prevent them from creating a portal to bring Wiggly from the Black and White into the real world. Magic[]
Magic is both an inherent and learned talent within the Hatchetfield Universe. While some people are born with special abilities, other have the ability to use magic through using incantations detailed in the Black Book.
One specific set of magical abilities within the Hatchetfield Universe is The Gift. These powers can manifest in a number of ways but are defined by having a connection in some form to the Black and White. Most users who have this skill set are described as having 'a touch of the gift' and are often called witches. People with a 'touch of the gift' are born with this power and it's an inherent talent they posses. These powers usually peak around the age of 15 and many people grow out of them as they reach maturity. Alongside the gift, other inherent abilities have featured within the Hatchetfield Universe such as Sophia's pyrokinesis and Daniel's time manipulation.
Those born without inherent magical abilities are able to enact magic using the spells and incantations within the Black Book. These spells have a wide range of uses including soul transference, stealing someone's youth and siphoning the power of the Lords in Black.
