The Hatchetmen are the founders of the town of Hatchetfield. They are actively committed to keeping those with The Gift and those who worship the Lords in Black from infecting Hatchetfield with their magic. The only known Hatchetmen in present-day Hatchetfield are the The Metzger Family. The Hatchetmen feature in The Witch in the Web and Perky's Buds.

History[]

The Hatchetmen were the original settlers on the island of Hatchetfield and founded the town in 1824. Also settled on Hatchetfield island was the witch Willabella Muckwab, who used the blood of the Hatchetmen's children to write the Black Book. In response to both this and her worshipping of the Lords in Black, the Hatchetmen found Willabella guilty of crimes of witchcraft and sentenced her to death by hanging. To contain Willabella's soul and to trap her magic and the magic of others, the Hatchetmen planted those with a touch of the Gift, turning them into Tree-People. This is what led to the creation of Witchwood Forest. From this point onward the Hatchetmen made it their sworn duty to attempt to keep magic out of Hatchetfield.

In 1945, the Hatchetmen attacked a gathering of the Church of the Starry Children at Waylon Hall and massacred the church killing many of the members including Mr Young and The Waylon Family.

In 1986, the Hatchetmen caught and planted Casey turning her into a tree-person.

After Emma Perkins cut down a number of trees in Witchwood Forest, she was confronted by the Hatchetmen who almost planted both Emma and Ziggs in revenge before being killed by the attacking nighthawks.

Trivia[]

  • The Hatchetmen's mantra "The innocent must suffer, the guilty must be punished, you must taste blood to be a man" comes from Sam Raimi's 3 rules of horror which Nick Lang has claimed as the basis for which he writes Hatchetfield.
